About Our School

Eskişehir Atatürk High School, founded in 1910, has a rich history dating back to the Ottoman period. Originally established as "Rüştiye Mektebi" (Middle School), it later became "İdadi Mektebi" and then "Sultani Mektebi".

The school was closed during the Greek occupation in 1920 but reopened on September 2, 1922, after Eskişehir's liberation as "Eskişehir Orta Mektebi". In the 1929-1930 academic year, the school moved to a new building, and the high school section was opened in 1930-1931, graduating its first students in 1932-1933.

On January 16, 1933, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk visited our school, meeting with students and teachers, and showing great interest in the educational programs. Following his visit and the school's request, Atatürk ordered the school to be moved to a new government building.

In 1934-1935, the school moved to its current building, which was originally constructed as a government building in the First National Architecture style, featuring Seljuk and Ottoman architectural elements. The school was renamed Atatürk Lisesi in 1961 and continues to serve students in this historic building today.

Our school has a boarding facility with a capacity of 130 students, operating since 1968 under the name of "Atatürk Lisesi".

LETTER FROM SECRETARY GENERAL

Secretary General

Dear Distinguished Delegates, Honorable Advisors, and Esteemed Guests,

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to Atatürk Lisesi Model United Nations (ALMUN). As the Secretary-Generals of this conference, we are truly honored to host such a distinguished group of delegates who are eager to engage in diplomacy, critical thinking, and global discussion.

Model United Nations is more than a conference; it is a platform where young minds come together to exchange ideas, challenge perspectives, and work collaboratively toward solutions for some of the most pressing issues facing our world today. At ALMUN, we aim to create an environment where every delegate can develop their debating skills, broaden their understanding of international affairs, and build meaningful connections with participants from different backgrounds.

Throughout the conference, our committees will provide opportunities for delegates to step into the roles of world leaders, diplomats, and decision-makers. We strongly encourage you to actively participate, voice your ideas with confidence, and embrace the spirit of diplomacy and cooperation.

This conference would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of our academic team, organization team, and staff members who have worked tirelessly to bring ALMUN to life.

We sincerely hope that ALMUN will be an inspiring and memorable experience for all participants. We look forward to witnessing your debates, innovative resolutions, and the friendships that will emerge during the conference.

With warm regards,

Defne Göleci
Secretary-General

Arda Öz

CEU

Council of the European Union

Intermediate

The Council of the European Union is one of the European Union's principal institutions, responsible for decision-making, enacting new and advanced laws, adjusting security policies, coordinating among member states, and more. In 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman paved the way for the CEU by creating the European Coal and Steel Community. Subsequently, in 1958, six states signed the Treaties of Rome, initiating the European Economic Community.

As of 2026, the Council comprises 27 member states. One of the consequential issues is the EU's reliance on foreign states for energy. The EU imports more than half of its energy, mainly oil and natural gas, from suppliers including Russia, the USA, Norway, and the Middle East. The war between Russia and Ukraine and shifting global policies make this topic crucial and evolving.

For the Delegate: If you have had MUN experiences before and want a bigger challenge with fine debating and great diplomacy, this intermediate committee is definitely for you.

UNWOMEN

United Nations Entity for Gender Equality

Beginner

UN Women is the world's leading global champion for women's equality and empowerment, responsible for advocating for gender justice, setting global standards, and improving the lives of women and girls worldwide. In 2010, the UN General Assembly merged four distinct parts of the UN system to create this unified and powerful entity.

As of 2026, one of the most consequential issues is the lack of social security for women working in the informal sector. Millions of women are employed in jobs with no legal protection, leaving them deprived of health insurance, retirement pensions, and maternity leave. We are prepared to address the strengthening of social protection systems as our topic.

For the Delegate: If you are a first-timer or want to address international cooperation without feeling pressured, this beginner committee is perfect for you. We would be honored to have you join us!

HJCC

Historical Joint Crisis Committee: Hundred Years' War

Crisis

The Historical Joint Crisis Committee on the Hundred Years' War (1337–1453) is set during one of the most transformative conflicts of medieval Europe, fought primarily between England and France. The conflict emerged due to dynastic disputes, territorial tensions, and feudal rivalries.

This committee simulates political and military decision-making of the era. Delegates will respond to rapidly developing crisis updates, negotiate alliances, manage resources, and shape the fate of Europe. The main focus includes succession disputes, military strategy, internal rebellions, economic struggles, and foreign alliances.

Why It Matters: This war reshaped England and France politically, economically, and socially, contributing to the rise of national identities and influencing Europe's balance of power for centuries.

ECOSOC

United Nations Economic and Social Council

Advanced

The United Nations Economic and Social Council is one of the six principal organs of the UN, responsible for coordinating economic and social efforts. ECOSOC plays a key role in achieving higher standards of living, economic progress, full employment, and worldwide development.

As of 2026, ECOSOC consists of 54 member states representing diverse economies. A main discussion topic is whether financial assistance to developing countries helps long-term growth or creates dependency. Since the mid-20th century, financial aid has been used to reduce poverty and stimulate growth, but its effectiveness remains questionable in today's interconnected economy.

For the Delegate: This committee requires strong analytical thinking, economic understanding, and diplomatic negotiation skills. If you are interested in debating global economic development, ECOSOC offers a dynamic and intellectually engaging platform.

SAN FRANCISCO

United Nations Conference on International Organization (1945)

Crisis

The San Francisco Conference (UNCIO), held in 1945 as WWII neared its end, was responsible for drafting the United Nations Charter and establishing the framework for modern global governance. Representatives from 50 nations gathered to define a new framework for international cooperation, peace, and security.

The conference featured four main committees: Steering, Executive, Coordination, and Credentials. The resulting UN Charter was signed on June 26, 1945, at the Herbst Theatre. This historic convention was motivated by the devastation of WWII and the failure of the League of Nations.

For the Delegate: If you have attended MUNs before, received awards, and want a compelling challenge where you can outmaneuver opposing interests and challenge historical norms, this crisis committee is where you belong.

DISEC

Disarmament and International Security Committee

Beginner

The UN Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) was established in 1945 as the first of the UN's Main Committees. Its purview includes regulation of armaments, resolution of regional conflicts, prevention of an outer space arms race, and promotion of international peace through disarmament.

Nowadays, DISEC's agenda includes new-generation threats such as cybersecurity, autonomous weapons systems, and terrorism. In recent years, mercenaries have become more visible in armed conflicts, potentially leading to prolonged wars, uncontrolled weapons proliferation, and human rights violations. We are ready to address the legal obligations of mercenaries under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

For the Delegate: If you lack experience or feel nervous as a first-timer, don't worry—this beginner committee is perfect for you. You will address international cooperation and state obligations while having fun without pressure.

FNATO

Future NATO: Indo-Pacific Expansion

Semi-Crisis

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was founded on April 4, 1949, with the signing of the Washington Treaty by 12 countries. Collective defence, enshrined in Article 5, is at the heart of the Treaty. Originally created to counter Soviet expansion, NATO has gradually globalized, with 32 member states as of 2026.

Since 2014, Russia's aggression, China's rise, and regional threats have drawn NATO's attention to the Indo-Pacific. The NATO 2022 Strategic Concept, adopted at the Madrid Summit, notes that "developments in that region can directly affect Euro-Atlantic security." NATO has stepped up cooperation with Australia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand.

For the Delegate: If you feel confident in MUN, want a little spice, and are interested in top-level diplomacy and strategic decision-making, don't hesitate to join this semi-crisis committee full of chaos and opportunity!

WHO

World Health Organization

Intermediate

The World Health Organization (WHO) works to connect nations, partners, and people to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable—so everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health. WHO leads global efforts to expand universal health coverage, directs responses to health emergencies, and promotes healthier lives from pregnancy care through old age.

Their Triple Billion targets outline an ambitious plan to achieve good health for all using science-based policies. Furthermore, we will focus on combating stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness, encouraging open dialogue, understanding, and inclusive policies that support mental well-being for all.

For the Delegate: If you are passionate about global health issues, public policy, and humanitarian diplomacy, this committee offers a meaningful platform to discuss solutions that impact billions of lives worldwide.

About Us

As the first high school established in Eskişehir, we, Eskişehir Atatürk High School, are proud to host this important organization.

With a history spanning nearly 120 years, our roots trace back to the period of the WW1. Although it was originally opened as a high school, our institution was closed during the Turkish War of Independence. Later, by the order of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the building constructed for the Eskişehir Governorship was relocated and our school continued its educational activities there.

At our school, encouraging free thought, discussing events from diverse perspectives, and simulating the current problems of our world in order to develop solutions are among our primary goals. While carrying forward the legacy left to us by the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, it is equally important for us that you enjoy your time here.

We would be truly delighted to welcome you among us.
